Gukesh Dommaraju was born on May 29, 2006. He is an Indian chess grandmaster who is a world record holder because he was the youngest undisputed World Chess Champion. He is nick-named Gukesh D; he attained the pinnacle of chess at the age of 18 by defeating Ding Liren in the 2024 World Chess Championship by a score of 7½ to 6½. He thus beat the previous records held by some of the legendary chess figures.
Early Life and Family Background
Gukesh was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to a Telugu family. His father, Rajinikanth, is an ENT surgeon, and his mother, Padma, is a microbiologist. Gukesh’s roots trace back to the village of Chenchuraju Kandriga near Satyavedu in Andhra Pradesh.

• 2019: Gukesh gains his first title as a Grandmaster (GM) at the age of 12, making him only the second-youngest GM ever.
Olympiad Achievements
• 2022: At the 44th Chess Olympiad, Gukesh won the individual gold medal on board 1 with a score of 9/11 and victories over top players such as Fabiano Caruana.
• 2024: Gukesh was the key player for India in the team that became the first ever team to take home the gold at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, scoring 9/10 without a single loss and achieving the performance rating of 3056—the highest in the tournament.

•2022: Gukesh crossed 2700 rating points, thus becoming the third-youngest player to have done so.
•2023: In the FIDE World Cup, Gukesh defeated several tough opponents to qualify for the 2024 Candidates Tournament.
